SCHULENBURG
- The Schulenburg Shorthorns cleared a major obstacle in their path to a
District 28-2A title with a 24-6 win over Rice Consolidated.
The
teams came into the game with identical 6-0, 3-0 records, with the winner
taking sole possession of first place. Schulenburg started the game with a
17-point run on a pair of Casey Moore touchdown receptions from Clayton Besetzny and a 36-yard Carlos Lara field goal.
Rice
finally got on the board right before halftime on a 62-yard run by Zacchaeus Foster. It would prove to be the Raiders' only
highlight.
Roderick
Houston ran one in from 9 yards out in the fourth to cap off Schulenburg's
scoring.
The Shorthorns
came out on top of nearly every statistical category in the game. Schulenburg
put up 265 total yards of offense, while the defense held the potent Rice
Consolidated offense to 198 yards. The biggest difference came in the turnover
department.
The Shorthorns
recorded three interceptions and a fumble recovery while the offense did not
commit any turnovers on the night.
